Urban Herons

Great blue herons (left)and the smaller green heron (below) are known to visit private ponds that are stocked with ornamental fish. To prevent these birds from preying on the fish, stretch lines of twine or light rope about 12 inches apart and several feet above the pond. Because the herons' extended wings will not fit between the strands, they cannot land in or around the pond.
