Many thanks to the veterinarians who donate their time and expertise to Chintimini Wildlife
Center! Thanks for all that you do.
Frontier Veterinary Hospital, Hillsboro
My name is Claire Peterson and I'm a small animal (dogs and cats) and avian veterinarian at Frontier Veterinary Hospital in Hillsboro. I graduated with a bachelor's degree from the Johnston Center of Integration Studies in Redlands, CA, and then earned my veterinary degree over 4 years at Oregon State (go beavs!).
My passion in life has always been birds, specifically wild birds like raptors. I started volunteering with wildlife when I was 13 years old at Hawk Haven in Estacada, Oregon and I haven't looked back since! I first came to volunteer at Chintimini in 2009 when I started my veterinary school career. I enjoy working with both the medical side of the healing process - there's always a challenge and something new! - and also enjoy working with the educational birds in their training and helping them to be the best and happiest avian ambassadors for the public.
In my free time I am a falconer, and currently have a young goshawk named Fletcher who I fly as often as I can. He was born in May of this year and has been so much fun to train. I have two cats named Bramble and Thistle, who are both still kittens but are growing fast! I am building a catio, an outdoor enclosed porch, for them. This way they can have their sunshine and outdoor time, but my birds on my feeders will be safe, and so will Bramble and Thistle!
